About the celebration of Janmashtami
With the early rays of the sun Janmashtami preparations start. Devotees decorate the idols of Krishna with flowers and ‘mor pankh’ (peacock feather).
They offer ‘maakhan’ (white butter), curd, and milk as Bal Krishna’s favorite food. Dahi Handi events are also organised in many places all over the country.
Dance-drama enactments of the life of Krishna according to the Bhagavata Purana (such as Rasa Lila or Krishna Lila), devotional singing through the late hours when Krishna was born at midnight.
Celebrations in Mathura and Vrindavan are on a grand scale – ( Mahotsav )
